Although the game is only played on a professional level in one country, American Football is one of the most bet upon games in the world, this is partly due to the immense range of betting opportunities and the fact that in the world's leading economy it is the number one game. Although the game is considered to be as American as apple pie, its roots lie in the plethora of football games which developed out of the UK in the 18th and 19th centuries, in particular rugby. The game in the US is divided into 2 "conferences" which are again divided into 4 "divisions" comprising 4 teams. At the end of the regular season the top teams in each division goes through to play in the "play-offs" which lead eventually to the Super Bowl - the biggest game in the American Football calendar and one of the most watched sports events in the world.
