Type: Racing
Known as the Sport of Kings due to its long association with the aristocracy and monarchies the world over, there are few sports as exhilarating as horse racing, whether betting on the outcome of a particular race or not. Horse racing is hugely popular in countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and the United States - all of which host some of the most iconic races. There are two main types of horse race, flat racing or national hunt; flat racing, as the name suggests, is run over a course with no fences whereas national hunt racing is over hurdles usually made from brushwood. Also popular is steeplechase, where the horses are expected to jump over much higher and thicker fences than hurdles - the Grand National is an example of a steeplechase, and quite possibly the most famous horse race in the world.
